Copyright and ContentRights
Copyright protects original works of authorship according to applicable law. Copyright protection and the rights available to a creator or rights holder may vary depending on the work, jurisdiction, agreements, and other circumstances.
ContentRights provides technology intended to assist creators and rights holders with organizing and managing information related to their content and rights.
Ownership of Your Content
Registering or uploading content to ContentRights does not, by itself, transfer ownership of that content to ContentRights.
Creators and rights holders retain the rights they legally hold in their content, subject to any licenses, assignments, contracts, permissions, or other agreements that may apply.
Registering Content
Users who register content through ContentRights are responsible for ensuring that the information submitted is accurate and that they have the authority to register or manage the applicable content.
Registration information may include content metadata, ownership information, rights settings, registration identifiers, timestamps, fingerprints, and other information necessary to provide ContentRights services.
Rights Management
ContentRights may allow rights holders to record and manage information concerning how registered content may be used.
Depending on available features, rights settings may address matters such as:
- Commercial use.
- Licensing requirements.
- Sharing and distribution.
- Embedding.
- Modification or remixing.
- Attribution requirements.
- Additional rights terms established by the rights holder.
Monitoring and Potential Matches
ContentRights monitoring tools may be used to identify potential matches or uses of registered content through supported monitoring systems.
A detected match does not automatically establish copyright infringement.
A use may be authorized, licensed, legally permitted, subject to an exception or limitation, or otherwise require further review.
Rights holders should review relevant facts before taking action based on a monitoring result.
Licensing
Rights holders may use available ContentRights tools to organize or manage licenses involving their registered content.
The person or organization offering a license is responsible for possessing the legal authority to license the applicable rights.
Licensees are responsible for complying with the applicable license terms.
Copyright Complaints
A copyright owner or authorized representative who believes that material associated with ContentRights infringes their copyright may contact ContentRights using the official email listed below.
A copyright complaint should provide enough information for the matter to be meaningfully reviewed.
Information for a Copyright Report
When applicable, a copyright report should include:
- Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed.
- Identification of the material or activity at issue.
- Information reasonably sufficient to locate the relevant material.
- The reporting party's name and contact information.
- A statement explaining the reporting party's relationship to the copyrighted work.
- A statement that the information provided is accurate.
- Any additional statements or signature required by applicable copyright law.
Review of Copyright Reports
ContentRights may review a copyright report and request additional information when reasonably necessary to understand the claim.
ContentRights may also preserve relevant records or take reasonable action concerning material or accounts when required by applicable law or necessary to protect the integrity of the service.
Conflicting Ownership Claims
More than one person or organization may sometimes claim rights involving the same or related content.
ContentRights may request supporting documentation or other information when conflicting claims arise.
ContentRights technology does not replace a court, copyright authority, arbitrator, or other legally authorized decision-maker in determining disputed ownership.
Counter-Notices and Disputes
When applicable law provides a counter-notice or dispute process, a person affected by a copyright complaint may be permitted to submit information disputing the claim.
ContentRights may request information necessary to process such a response in accordance with applicable law and service procedures.
Repeat or Abusive Conduct
ContentRights may restrict or suspend accounts that repeatedly misuse copyright reporting systems, submit fraudulent ownership claims, or materially violate ContentRights policies.
Appropriate action may depend on the circumstances and applicable law.
ContentRights Intellectual Property
The ContentRights name, branding, logos, software, interface, graphics, service design, documentation, and other ContentRights-owned materials may be protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.
Use of ContentRights services does not grant permission to copy, reproduce, distribute, modify, or commercially exploit ContentRights-owned intellectual property except as expressly authorized.
No Legal Determination
ContentRights monitoring, registration, alerts, records, or other technology should not be interpreted as a legal ruling that a particular person owns a copyright or that a particular use constitutes infringement.
Copyright disputes can require legal analysis and review of facts that technology alone cannot determine.
No Legal Advice
ContentRights provides technology and rights-management services and does not provide legal advice through this page.
Creators, rights holders, licensees, and other parties should consult a qualified attorney when legal advice is needed regarding copyright ownership, infringement, licensing, enforcement, disputes, or other legal matters.
Copyright Contact
Copyright questions and reports may be submitted to the official ContentRights contact email.
